Environmental Planner - Transportation Projects

  • WSP Canada is currently seeking an Environmental Planner specialized in Municipal and MTO Class EAs to join our Environmental group located at our Head Office in Markham.  This position will provide you with the opportunity to participate in multi-disciplinary projects, primarily related to transportation infrastructure planning and development.   • Assist in the preparation of detailed planning/ scheduling activities for various class EA projects
  • Assist planners with municipal, provincial and federal Transportation EA projects and proposals
  • Develop and implement public consultation programs
  • Respond to and resolve stakeholder concerns
  • Coordination of environmental specialties
  • Communications with MNR and conservation authorities
  • Work in tight collaboration with the transportation design teams
  • Review and issue accurate and timely reports and correspondence to the project team as required
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Environmental studies or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in a related field
  • Eligible for membership or currently a member of the Canadian Institute of Planners or PEO
  • Strong understanding of the fundamentals of various legislation that will be commonly used (e.g. Environmental Assessment Act, Environmental Protection Act, Fisheries Act, Endangered Species Act) and related legislation  Previous experience in the application of EA processes in Ontario including the MTO and MEA class EA processes
  • Demonstrated interest and experience in other areas of planning including urban planning, sustainability, and natural heritage planning
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft office and other related computer software programs including GIS is an asset
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to communicate in both official languages is an asset
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
