Human Resources Consultant - Ottawa & Gatineau

Key Responsibilities

  • As a small team of HR professionals servicing a large regional structure, the WSP Ontario HR team collaborates closely to deliver consistently high levels of service to the business whilst maintaining a corporate perspective on operational issues
  • Supporting a group of around 500 staff, the HR Generalist manages the administration of the HR policy, procedures and programs. The HR Generalist carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: departmental development, Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS), employee relations, training and development, benefits, compensation, organizational development, and employment. The successful applicant will be involved at all levels in the business, gaining the trust and respect of senior operational managers and business Unit Leaders and helping deliver HR strategy as per the corporate plan. This person would be proactive, a strong communicator and a partner to the business; helping promote accountability to corporate initiatives and goals
  • Provide coaching, guidance, support, and tools and information to enable business leaders to effectively handle employee performance, career development, and employee relations issues and initiatives
  • Ensure successful and consistent implementation of HR program initiatives and process improvements while partnering with all members of the HR team
  • Interface with managers in the region while partnering with the Recruitment Specialist to ensure open communication and clarity of processes and accountabilities in order to get the right person for the right job as quickly as possible
  • Participate in the design and roll out of various lunch and learn sessions
  • Respond promptly and accurately to requests for HR information and data sharing regarding various HR metrics
  • Participate in the coordination of training and development initiatives in the region as required

Qualifications

  • Bilingual English/French
  • CHRP Designation an asset
  • 7 years solid experience as an HR Generalist (preferably in a technical industry)
  • University degree in Human Resources, an HR Diploma or Certificate, or a combination of education and related work experience
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities using strong prioritization and time management skills in a fast paced and dynamic environment
  • Sound knowledge of employment and related legislation for the region supported
  • Exemplary customer service orientation in dealing with management and employees
  • Must be able to build strong working relationships with the business leaders and be persuasive
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and exceptional interpersonal, listening and interpretive skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and effectively as a contributing member of a virtual HR team
  • Well-developed computer skills (MS Office Suite)
  • Previous experience in an engineering environment a definite asset
